Uzbekistan’s Auto Market Shows Robust Growth in March with 78,000 Light Vehicles Sold
March sales data reveal significant expansion in both primary and secondary auto markets, indicating sustained consumer demand and industrial growth.

Uzbekistan's automotive sector demonstrated a marked upswing in March 2026, with total sales of transport vehicles reaching 93,500 units, reflecting an 11.1% increase from February. Of these, over 78,000 were light vehicles, underscoring a robust demand across both new and used car segments.
Market Dynamics and Regional Variations
The surge in light vehicle sales represents a 19% month-on-month increase and a 20.6% rise compared to the same month last year. This positive trajectory signals that Uzbekistan's automotive market is entering a stable growth phase, driven by rising consumer purchasing power and favorable economic conditions.
Regionally, most provinces reported sales growth, with Surxondaryo leading with a remarkable 51.4% increase, followed by Toshkent province at 46%. The capital city, Toshkent, exhibited even more pronounced activity, with light vehicle sales soaring by 60.5% in a single month. Other regions such as Sirdaryo and Navoiy also posted strong gains. However, Jizzax, Andijon, and Samarqand provinces experienced slight declines in sales volume.
New vs. Used Vehicle Sales
The primary market accounted for approximately 31,000 new light vehicles sold in March, marking a 13% increase over February and a 37% year-on-year rise. Notably, domestically produced vehicles made up 25,000 units of the new car segment, reflecting a robust 26.5% annual growth. This suggests an expanding capacity and competitiveness of Uzbekistan's automotive manufacturing sector.
Imported new vehicles witnessed even faster growth, nearly doubling in monthly sales to 5,700 units and maintaining strong year-over-year gains. The secondary market for light vehicles registered 47,500 sales, a 23% increase from the previous month and a 12% rise year-on-year, highlighting sustained consumer interest in used cars as an affordable alternative.
Emerging Trends in Electric Vehicle Sales
Electric vehicle (EV) sales are also gaining momentum, with 5,500 units sold in March, representing a 24% annual increase. This uptick underscores growing environmental awareness and the gradual shift towards cleaner transportation technologies in Uzbekistan.
"The consistent growth across new, used, and electric vehicle markets indicates a maturing automotive sector that could significantly influence Uzbekistan's industrial diversification and economic resilience in the coming years."
For policymakers and economic strategists, these trends imply a need to support infrastructure development, including EV charging networks, and to strengthen domestic automotive manufacturing capabilities. The sustained demand also suggests a positive outlook for related sectors such as finance, insurance, and logistics, contributing to broader macroeconomic stability.
In summary, Uzbekistan's automotive market expansion in March reflects wider economic growth and changing consumer preferences. It offers valuable insights into the country's industrial policies and potential integration into global automotive value chains.
